We are taking a 2 week break from our unit on prayer to celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter!
For this is how God loved the world: He gave[a] his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Read Luke 24:1-12
Did you know that Easter is about more than a bunny and some candy?! It’s really about celebrating that Jesus rose from the dead! Jesus is the King of King and he was crucified (which means killed on a cross) so that you and I can live free lives! Have you ever done something wrong in your life? Have you ever been mean or made a mistake? When that happens, there is usually a consequence. We need someone to forgive us and to take that sin away. That’s why God sent Jesus to Earth! Jesus came and died to take away ALL of our sin! John 1:9 says “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!”
Imagine this: your mom asks you not to play basketball in the house but you ignore her and play anyway. You accidentally bounce the ball too close to the stairs and before you know it, the ball goes crashing down the steps and breaks a lamp at the bottom. Your mom is very upset and tells you that you will have to use your own money to fix the lamp. Just then, Jesus comes in and pays for it for you. Now, this may be a small example but it’s just a picture of what Jesus did for us on the cross. Jesus had NEVER sinned but he died like a sinner. Why would He do that?! He did that because He love you SO much that He wanted to take all of the sin for you. Because He had never sinned, Jesus was the only sacrifice that could possibly do just that – and you haven’t even heard the best part yet! The best part of the story is that 3 days after Jesus died, He rose again! Even death could not hold Jesus!
WOW! Jesus was stronger than death and he loves you SO much that he died for you and then rose from the grave to give us all victory over everything – including death! He’s alive today and He wants to be with you! Did you know that Jesus can live in your heart?! That’s right, all you have to do is pray and ask God to come in and He will! It’s as easy as A-B-C
A- Admit that we are sinners and we need someone to save us
B – Believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that God raised Him from the dead
C – Confess that Jesus is LORD (which means you give him control) over your life!
Today, let’s celebrate that Jesus not only died for us but that He LIVES!
HE IS RISEN!
Activity – Make a yarn and cardboard cross
Activity – Make an origami cross out of 1 piece of paper!
Just because we aren’t physically together doesn’t mean we can’t worship together!
Our kids have made it a tradition to end our Easter service with their rendition of Oh Happy Day. While we will miss seeing them in person, we hope they will still worship to this song!
We are taking a 2 week break from our unit on prayer to celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter!
“Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Read Mark 11:1-11
Have you ever waited on someone or something? How did you feel when they they or it finally showed up? Were you excited? Did you jump up and down? Did you shout for joy? That is how the people felt when Jesus finally arrived in Jerusalem. They shouted and treated Him like the King He is. They shouted “Hosanna” which means to save or rescue. They knew that Jesus was the savior – the rescuer.
Did you know that Jesus came to save YOU too?! We all make mistakes and we all sin. Jesus came to clean away all of that sin from our lives. He love YOU so much! That’s right, the King of Kings KNOWS you and LOVES you – so lets CELEBRATE!
Choose some activities!
If you don’t have a printer, have your kids trace their hands. Cut them out and color them green. Glue them together with the palms overlapping and the fingers on the outside. Grab a popsicle stick or a branch from outside and glue them on for a more realistic effect. It could look something like this:
Worship together: Shout Hosanna! (Use your palm branches for even more fun!)
